Requests for new templates and updates to existing templates can be placed on this page. You may also avail of personally contacting a user who has identified themself as an adept template coder, and either point them to your request here, or putting the request straight to them. Please note that personal requests should be a last resort.

Add new requests at the bottom of the page. Please provide a detailed description of how you would like the template to operate.

Please note that stub templates are usually requested at Wikipedia: WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals rather than here.

Note!: please be extremely specific about what you want. For instance, don't just say, "I'd like a template made about Monkeys." Tell us exactly what you want on the template (e.g. links to which articles, what kind of text, etc.), how you want it to look, and what you want it to do.
Click here to create a new request.
Please do not request or create disclaimer templates, such as "this page contains offensive content". Wikipedia is not censored.

Templates can be created by anyone, but it is not always clear how to get a particular template function to work. If you are familiar with Wikipedia template structure please consider helping with the requests on this page.

[edit] New Jersey Historical Sites

List of New Jersey state parks I would appreciate a template similar to the New Jersey State Parks one. The list is on List of New Jersey state parks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ram32110 (talkcontribs).

Created as {{New Jersey Historic Sites}} using Historic Sites list at List of New Jersey state parks#Historic Sites of New Jersey. Added to List of New Jersey state parks. Mike Dillon 15:58, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese Characters Templates

I would like a template that would alert readers to deal with articles with Chinese in the following ways:

  • Translate pinyin to the corresponding chinese symbol(s)
  • Translate chinese romanization to the corresponding pinyin or chinese
  • Put simplified symbols next to traditional symbols and vice versa
  • Translate english translations of chinese back to chinese and vice versa

Bibliomaniac15 00:35, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

This seems too involved to handle with templates. It would be a tall order even for user scripts and Wiki templates aren't the same as a full programming language. You might try the existing Pinyin/Chinese auto conversion tools here. --CBDunkerson 20:56, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Let me clarify that the templates are to alert users of these problems, not to actually do these things. Bibliomaniac15 23:30, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

On it. --jwandersTalk 21:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
A quick check of his contribs shows it looks like he forgot. This should be considered an open request. --Dgies 07:26, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Life in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations

Both the African Union and the European Union has this template, i think ASEAN should also, as a matter of fact i think as many international organizations with some sort of membership should included Briaboru

The requester is referring to {{Life in the African Union}} and {{Life in the European Union}}. There is currently no article on Life in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations that is comparable to Life in the African Union or Life in the European Union, so the template for ASEAN would be mostly redlinks. I just did a Google search for "Association of Southeast Asian Nations" or "ASEAN" in titles on Wikipedia and no comparable articles exist for Culture, Ecomony, etc. Mike Dillon 16:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unencyclopedic Section Template

There is a template to suggest an article is unenecyclopedic, but I am coming across a number of radio station articles with schedules that are unencyclopedic, although the radio station has a vaild reason for a place in Wikipedia. Could a template be made where a section, rather than a whole article is in violation of What Wikipedia is not policy? --tgheretford (talk) 07:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Send me your proposed text and I'll create it. PatrickFisher 13:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] General notifier for people using a talk page

Text along the lines of "There is a new major article or summary on this topic that requires attention" to place at the top of a busy talk page to indicate that a new article that somebody requested has in fact been created and that most of the people interested in the topic would probably like to look at it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sojourner001 (talkcontribs).

It seems like a simple message on the talk page would suffice. Mike Dillon 14:58, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk discussion template

One template that I think would be useful is something one would add when discussing on user pages. For example, if I and User:Bob were having a conversation, he would first leave a message on my talk page. As courtesy, when I respond, I post the response at his talk page (so he gets the "new messages" warning). However, when I post the comments on Bob's talk page, I could insert a template that would read: "This discussion originated at User talk:CrazyInSane", to allow for easy access to the rest of the conversation. What does everyone think?. — `CRAZY`(IN)`SANE` 18:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template for talk page notifications (a copy at the bottom)

I need a way to automatically place a template or a text notice both at the top and at the bottom of my talk page. If I simply copy the template/text to the bottom, it moves away with each new message as using + to add new section is a common method.
If this could be done with CSS or HTML tags, I'd like to have a template which automates the task. --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 12:46, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, it seems like <div style="bottom: -13px;position: absolute;"> ... </div> is a start, although I'd like it much more if existing text was flowing around my notification, instead of being behind it... --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 14:14, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ActiveDiscuss and Controversial templates

I would like to see 2 templates created for placement at the top of an article that would be similar to the existing templates ActiveDiscuss and Controversial (currently only for talk page). They might be called ActiveDiscuss2 and Controversial2. This is the current ActiveDiscuss template:

Accuracy dispute This article or section is currently being developed or reviewed.
Some statements may be disputed, incorrect, biased or otherwise objectionable.
Please read talk page discussion before making substantial changes.

This is the change or addition that I would like to see:

This article or section is currently being developed or reviewed.
Some statements may be disputed, incorrect, biased or otherwise objectionable.
Please read talk page discussion and discuss before making substantial changes.

Note that and discuss was added.

In addition please modify the Controversial template so that it is suitable for placement at the top of an article. It might be called Controversial2:

This is a controversial topic, which may be under dispute.
Please read this talk page and discuss substantial changes here before making them.
Make sure you supply full citations when adding information to highly controversial articles.
This template is misplaced. It belongs on the talk page: Wikipedia talk:Requested templates.

Please ignore the misplaced warning as I am putting the template here as an example.

I believe these two additional templates would reduce edit wars as people would need to discuss substantial changes before making them.

Who123 15:16, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think they're useful. If someone wants to discuss, existing templates direct them to the talk page. If they just want to make their change, the template can't stop them. --Dgies 05:42, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Saskatchewan template request

I'm requesting a template be created to replace the code at Aberdeen No. 373, Saskatchewan, Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, Blucher No. 343, Saskatchewan, Lost River No. 313, Saskatchewan, and various other Saskatchewan articles. Apparently this table is supposed to show which communities lie to the N/S/E/W of the community in question (though I do not know why this is relevant; as far as I know no other state/province pages contain templates like this). I don't know much about Saskatchewan so I don't know why such tables even exist. I've asked on the talk pages, but without much success. But as long as they do exist, we might as well have a pretty template, instead of a bunch of unwieldy code. --Fang Aili talk 14:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Converting the HTML to a wiki table seemed like a request within my skill level, so I built a template called Template:Saskatchewan rural municipalities navbox and updated a couple of the "rural municipalities". Arundel77 03:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Language Template for Tunisian Arabic users

Hi! I am requesting a user language template for the Tunisian Arabic Language Users which is now listed on Wikipedia:Babel, the wikipedia code for Tunisian Arabic is "aen" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Simmy85 (talkcontribs).

Wikipedia:Babel suggests it's "aeb". Would you be willing to translate the Wikipedia:Babel/Levels? I doubt many people here speak that language. --Dgies 18:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
The Tunisian Arabic article also says "aeb" as does the SIL reference page for ISO 639-3 language codes. The code "aen" is for Armenian sign language.[1] Mike Dillon 15:11, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rabbis timeline template

Hello, can a template please be created to automate the timeline shown in here. Its parameters should be the name of the Rabbi and the dates of his birth and death. The template would be much appreciated by Wikipedia:Orthodox Rabbinical Biography Collaboration of the Week. Thanks in advance! nadav 05:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

It is not possible to make this a template because template parameters don't work inside the <timeline> extension call. Mike Dillon 15:09, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yu Yu Hakusho Episode Nav

I am currently working on Yu Yu Hakusho (anime) episode plots and I was wanting an episode navigator as seen in Naruto episode plots.Mvp7 11:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

It looks like the Naruto episode articles are using a simple {{succession box}} and so are the Yu Yu Hakusho articles. I believe this request can be archived. Mike Dillon 15:13, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] please provide template Template:Unclear writing

it should be like "cleanup" except refer to unclear writing. The template "cleanupconfusing" is good, but in the place I would like to add it there is nothing confusing about the prose. It's just a little unclear and needs cleanup. For now, I'm adding a simple cleanup tag, but "unclear writing" would be better. This is the section. It looks like it's been copyedited fairly well. It's not in need of "cleaning up", it's just simply an unclear approach. The template should prompt the author to try their hand again, hopefully attaining a clearer version. They shouldn't really clean up their version, they should really realize it will always be inherrently pretty unclear. Maybe a diagram or rearranging the sentences might help, that's up to the author. Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.97.10.118 (talk • contribs).

This looks like exactly what {{confusing}} is for. We shouldn't have more templates for the same thing. PatrickFisher 13:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] League of Ireland football

Could you please update this template http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:FAI_League by removing Dublin City F.C. who folded due to debt. Also, could you please include the Eircom League logo on either side of the title which I have created here Eircomleague.jpg and a separate section for past seasons with the Irish flag on either side of the title, similar to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Premier_Soccer_League. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Johnfullerton (talkcontribs).

Status:
  • Dublin City F.C. was already removed
  • The logo cannot be used because of Wikipedia's fair use policy
  • The seasons go back to 1921 and there are no articles
I don't think there is anything more to do with this request unless it is made clearer what should be done with the long list of seasons that would result. Mike Dillon 15:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template for an organization?

I need a template for an organization which says that it is not needed to go through speedy deletion?rencin24 07:33, 12 September 2006 (UTC) or please update this template http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Onfire —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rencin24 (talkcontribs).

This request is unclear. It sounds like the requester wants {{hangon}}. Mike Dillon 15:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] fansite warning

I think it would be very useful to have a fansite warning template, similar to {{advert}}, and probably named {{fansite}}. Something like:

It should probably also add the article to one of the articles that need cleanup categories.

I might be able to put this together on my own, with some mentoring. But I'm not confident enough to tackle it unaided. Feel free to throw comments or advice on my talk page. TIA -- Xtifr 23:58, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Created. I think this is a good idea. I see this sort of thing all the time. Here's what {{fansite}} looks like now:
-- PatrickFisher 14:39, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To avoid people editing two pages about the same subject

I have made a template Template:Edit linked page not here, e.g.:-

If possible, please put new information about Article that does not exist in Article that does not exist, and leave this section as a stub.

Anthony Appleyard 09:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Needs Update

My suggestion is a template to be placed on Wikipedia-namespace pages that need updating (e.g. collaboration pages that are inactive, or RfAs open longer than they should be). What I specifically have in mind for the template's first usage is on Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations, which has multiple mottos that are over 7 days old, needing attention from an overseer. The template could look something like:

This project page needs to be updated.
Parts of this page have existed longer than {{{1}}}, and are in need of closure/archival.

Overseers or experienced contributors to this page: Please fix the page as necessary, and remove this template when done.

--Gray Porpoise 22:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] constructing a soccer stadium for the 2101 world cup in soweto

PLease list the templates for constructing a soccer stadium in Soweto what all needs to be added to the quality and communication plan when constructing a soccer stadium —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 168.210.128.20 (talk • contribs).

2101? Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. --Dgies 06:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Illegal immigration to the United States

We need a template for "The Illegal alien debate in the United States". I tried to create one, but I'm just not an artist. I need someone with artistic talent. I'd like a template similar to the two on the Intelligent Design page. The picture selected needs to be really neutral as this is a politically charged issue and we don't want to show bias in any direction. Some of the links which can go in the template include, Illegal immigration to the United States Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution United States immigration debate Anchor baby H.R. 4437 2006 United States immigration reform protests S. 2611 Federation for American Immigration Reform National Council of La Raza La Raza Center for Immigration Studies and Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 There should be room for more articles as this subject seems to spawn articles like nobody's business. -Psychohistorian 19:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] online database

Do we have a template for the description of an online database? I've just added some section headers to Dialog (online database), and will need many more. If no one disagres I can try writing one. it would be my first. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DGG (talkcontribs).

[edit] Additional (cricket) all-rounder table

Is there any chance of creating an all-rounders table for players who have scored 3000 runs and taken 300 wickets in Test matches. There is already a table for players who have scored 2000 runs and taken 200 wickets in Test matches. Big Al 1984 11:44, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

See Template talk:All-rounders for discussion and help I need in creating it. --MECUtalk 17:13, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Iceland topics

I thought that a template containing Iceland topics, similar to Template:Portugal topics could be useful. I was planning to add it to newly created Portal:Iceland. I could easily create that template, but I reckon I need approval first. Please provide feedback. By the way, I'm requesting this template because I could not find one of its kind. If a template containing Iceland topics already exists, please let me know. Thank you.--Húsönd 23:45, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

There seems to be no template for Iceland topics (there is no such template that contains a link to Iceland). I'm generally not in favor of such templates, but there are plenty of them so I think there's little chance it would be deleted if you created one. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:44, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request to rewrite

I was looking through the articles for deletion last night, and I am very concerned that "delete" notices are being pasted on articles which although clearly are in need of much work, are potentially good ideas.

Many of these articles appear from people who have not written before and are unaware of the procedures (or even how to put in titles, categories, etc.) and it clearly isn't a good first action to in effect say: "THIS STUPID ARTICLE AND AUTHOR SHOULD BE DELETED".

To avoid this situation I believe the procedures for deletion should be:

  1. If it meets criteria for speedy deletion - speedy delete.
  2. If the content probably warrants deletion and it is unlikely any article could be written under the title proposed that would be kept, then slap on a deletion notice
(but the comment should be in proportion to the effort/newness of the author')
  1. If the content may warrant deletion but it is possible the title may be good for an article, I proposed a: A Request to rewrite

A Request to rewrite

In essence a request to rewrite is an inoffensive deletion notice!

A request to rewrite would be a notice to the author that unless they substantially improve the article it will be deleted. The request would be time limited, after which if the article has not improved it will "automatically" become a request to delete (if edited) or deleted (if no action has been taken).

My personal opinion is that unless an article meets a criteria for speedy deletion or is posted by a seasoned author, then authors objecting to the deletion should be able to get the deletion notice removed and a "Request for rewrite" put in its place and the deletion notice should make this clear!.

In practice the two are very similar - if the author doesn't put in a substantial to improve the article it will be deleted anyway - but the psychological impact is very different: delete says: "go away you stupid...."; rewrite says: "good try but it will have to go unless..."

In addition the request to rewrite (and deletion notices) should go to a help page which explains:

  1. How to request help ({ { helpme } } -it may sound obvious but it isn't - and when you are new and spending 90% of your time trying to work out how to make bold and have one evening before the deletion date to finish the article ..... trying to find out how to get help is a nightmare!)
  2. How to "deal" with a request to delete.
    1. How to get it removed so that you can see what you are editing
    2. How to use an { { under construction } } notice!
    3. How to get it removed so that those involved have an incentive to work on the article
    4. How to change it into a request to rewrite
    5. How to move to home test-pages (not the kid's sandpit)
    6. A simple explanation of the deletion discussion.
    7. How to speedy delete your own article
  3. A link to some common "templates" for articles by which I mean: User:Haseler/template
  4. How to change the name of an article to make it less "contentious"
  5. How to explain the purpose of an article which is under construction so that the article is considered for its purpose rather than the current state of editing

--Mike 09:04, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

There is a {{cleanup-rewrite}} template already. Your idea sounds good, and I think it could be incorporated into the existing template -- just change the text in the template. Be bold! -- PatrickFisher 14:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Article

If the worst company in the world (Micro$oft) can give me a choice of templates when I ask for a new document, why doesn't Wikipedia?

Having started a few articles (and having had more deleted), I can never remember what kinds of things ought to go in. Eventually I started a template article of my own: User:Haseler/template with the common headings. It ought to have e.g. some category information a "{ { stub } }" & "{ { underconstruction} }" notice at the top (but that wrecks Wikipedia if I leave it there!) If for new users it ought also to have a link to "how to edit a page" and "shortcuts" or whatever it is.

What I personally would like to do be able to do is to open a new page for editing and put:

{ { NewArticle} }, save it and magically a template article appears.

Better still, I would be given a choice of articles: biography, history, ideas, etc. and suitable headings etc. would appear for the respective category. (I also think when a new page is created there should be the option to place it on a user's testpages)

Ideally all new articles would open with this template as a default - which experience users could remove/Opt out of in preferences! --Mike 09:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

This is not an issue of creating templates, this is a request for a new feature of MediaWiki. Nobody can help you here. Try making a new feature request at the MediaWiki bug-tracker site. --Dgies 06:28, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
This is, in fact, bugzilla:3201. -- Rick Block (talk) 14:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

This can be done with the "preload" functionality of the Inputbox extension. I believe it is currently installed on WP in some form, but it was a little inconsistent last time I looked at using it. Have a look at m:Help:Inputbox#Preload.

I just played with it a little and it seems to be working: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_am_a_big_dodo_if_I_save_this?action=edit&preload=User:Haseler/template Mike Dillon 15:36, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Just to note, I don't think this is appropriate to introduce across the board, but I see no problem with you using it for yourself. Just for fun, I did some hacking of my monobook.js to add a form to the "newarticletext" box that shows on the top of a new article. It's in a function called addPreloadArticleTemplate and requires my Easy DOM script. Mike Dillon 16:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Amazon.com

Greetings! So many of the books, DVDs, etc. have links to Amazon.com as a source of information, I'd like to request a template for Amazon.com external links. Kind of like the {{imdb title}} template, using the item's isbn or title. This would streamline things considerably. Any takers? Cheers, Pegship 16:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Fairly certain we should shy away from Amazon.com links anyway, but here's the template: {{Amazon.com item}}
In use: The Zombie Survival Guide on Amazon.com
Again, I don't know if this template actually meets a need (or follows any relevant guidelines). I just made it because it only took me about five minutes and I was bored. :-) EVula 16:41, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 100+ Premier League Goals Club

Could someone create a template for all the footballers who have scored at least 100 English Premier League goals. There are currently 13 players to have achieved this feat - Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Michael Owen, Teddy Sheringham, Matt Le Tissier, Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand, Dion Dublin, Thierry Henry and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Big Al 1984 12:53, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Done. See {{FA Premier 100 Goal Scorers}}. I guessed it was FA Premier so if that's wrong we can change that. If you don't like something about it you can edit it yourself or let me know. I'll leave it up to you to include this on each of the pages of the players listed. --MECUtalk 17:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two templates request

I apologise in advance if these already exist, but I would like to see two templates:

2. Template on Bratislava bridges.

[edit] {{Infobox Co-operative}}

Please help the author of this template! :)Pixeltoo 02:48, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Why aren't you just using {{Co-operatives}}? -Amarkov blahedits 21:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Locked pages

There are a lot of pages which have been locked and have the template that tells you to go to the talk page to look up why. Honestly, I've barely ever been able to find out why exactly a page has been locked and would like to suggest some mention of a reason being either mentioned on the page itself or the talk page, preferably through use of a template. Like this:

/------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\
|This page has been locked and the admin who did so states the following as a reason:|
|________INSERT REASON HERE__________________________________________________________| —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JohanTenge (talkcontribs).

This can be found in the protection log for the page. For instance, http://en.wikipedia.org../../../l/o/g/Special%7ELog_01d8.html. Perhaps the {{Protected}} template and friends should link to the protection log, but this should probably be discussed at Template talk:Protected instead of here. [edit] Add Diagnosis to House (TV series) episode

Many of the individual pages for House episodes contain a distinct syntax to highlight the diagnos(es), putting that in the template should be considered. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vagary (talkcontribs).

I'm on it. Actually, I plan on adding more than just that, but I'm still on it. -Amarkov blahedits 00:14, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] db-school

There's more to this one than requesting the template I know, but can we have a custom db-school template stating that the article in question has been requested to be speedily deleted because it doesn't assert why the school, university, college or other educational institution is important or notable? •Elomis• 06:09, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I've created {{db-school}}, but don't use it for secondary education or higher. There's discussion about whether or not such institutions are inherently notable, so marking them for speedy would be inappropriate. -Amarkov blahedits 05:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] db-again?

I've just found out we're not to use db-repost if something didn't *actually* go through an AfD discussion- so, could we get a speedy deletion template, reason being something like "this is a repost of an article previously nominated, and speedy-deleted," to db-tag articles when they were speedy-deleted? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cantras (talkcontribs).

No, we can't. The speedy criterion explicitly does not apply to previous speedies, so you couldn't use such a template. -Amarkov blahedits 05:14, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
with what you said, I'm not sure if you're confirming that db-repost isn't kosher for past speedy deletes, or if you're saying "previous speedy deletion can't be used as a cause for new speedy deletion." Which, i don't know, it seems like it would be, or would be relevant somehow- sortof a "an admin thought this should be deleted once already." Cantras 04:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm not saying it shouldn't be, but it isn't, so you're going to have to get discussion about it over at WT:CSD, and get consensus that G4 should include speedies, before anyone's going to create the template. -Amarkov blahedits 04:29, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Speedies may be performed for reasons that are too varied fro such a template to be useful. If a Verbascum blattaria article is created and deleted as {{db-nonsense}}, it would theoretically be eligible automatically under such a criterion... Circeus 05:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PermissionRequested template

At the moment there does not seem to be any templates notifying admins that a user has contacted the copyright owner requesting the image's use of Wikipedia.

The recommended template below, which may be called {{PermissionRequested}}, is made to respond to Template:Copyrighted, Template:Noncommercial and similar warning templates, and can warn admins not to delete the image until notification has been received.

This image is awaiting permission of use from its owner.

ExampleUser has contacted the copyright owner, http://www.example.com, asking permission to license this image under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. Please do not delete this image or hide this template while a response is expected.

Once the request has been answered, please remove this notice. If permission has been granted, please send confirmation to the Wikimedia Communications committee, as per the instructions on Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.

This image has been tagged since <date>. If a response has not been received one week prior to this date, this image may be deleted without warning.

There are three suggested arguments: 1 - username, 2 - copyright holder, 3 - date.

Does anybody have any opinions on this? ~ ► Wykebjs ◄ (userpage | talk) 17:13, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

There needs to be an automated mechanism for deleting content with expired permission requests. {{Replaceable fair use}} includes
[[Category:Replaceable fair use images as of {{{day|{{CURRENTDAY}}}}} {{{month|{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}}}} {{{year|{{CURRENTYEAR}}}}}]]
so perhaps you should include something for a relevant category of unlicensed images, to make it easy for admins to cleanup. Should also add that if you are going to include a tagging date like you have, you will need to force people to subst the template always, as is also done in {{Replaceable fair use}} --Dgies 17:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking, Dgies. Unless anybody objects, I can build the template and categories and edit Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission to instruct users to use the template.
I don't know how to create an automated mechanism however, but I'm don't believe it will take much effort for somebody experienced with this. Could anybody help? ~ ► Wykebjs ◄ (userpage | talk) 17:53, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
EDIT: I have submitted a bot request here. ~ ► Wykebjs ◄ (userpage | talk) 18:08, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
No, this is a bad idea. Copyright laws don't recognize what people expect to recieve, they recognize what they have. So a picture should not be kept until a reply is recieved, it should be deleted until a reply is recieved. -Amarkov blahedits 01:01, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
In certain situations, (like RFU), Wikipedia does have the right to use the image but for policy, not legal, reasons it must be deleted if not made available under different license terms. Wouldn't {{PermissionRequested}} be acceptable in those sorts of cases? We might need to include a note on it "This template can only be used for type-Foo copyright problems" --Dgies 07:34, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
But if there are any copyright problems, then the image should be deleted. The policy doesn't recognize what people expect to recieve, either. -Amarkov blahedits 03:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {Redundant} Template

As I was browsing the German version of Wikipedia, a template that I came across and realized would be useful is the Redundant template.

{ {subst:Redundant|Article1|Article2|Article3(|other Articles)} }

{Image:IconRedundant.gif This article overlaps thematically with ([Article1], [Article 2], etc). Help to distinguish or combine the articles. You can find a guide for doing so and a list of redundant articles under [Wikipedia:Redundant]. (Discuss)
[Date]}

In addition, there is a page explaining redundancy and how to use the tag (link). It also offers examples of how to discuss the subject, if you believe:
- There is no redundancy between the topics, and they do not need further work
- The topic choices are not redundant, but the difference in the articles is not obvious, and work needs to be done on the articles to make the differences more clear
- The articles should be merged
There is also a wiki category for open redundancy tags (sorted by month into subcategories) that are more than three months outstanding.

I could not find any tag under the merge/split/move section for articles that clearly have lots of overlap and need clarification, but probably not a merger. It addresses the problem more directly than a Cleanup or Merger tag.Thalassicus01 22:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

That would be fairly easy to make, though the maitenence tag bots would have to be updated to recognize it, but it assumes that articles which have some thematic overlap are redundant, which is not necessarily the case. Cleanup tags shouldn't imply something people will disagree with. -Amarkov blahedits 22:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree, it more closely fits under the Split/Merge subcategory (where it is placed on the German page), as those tags spark more discussion. On the other hand, it's used when a merger is likely not needed, somewhat overlapping the categories. I also agree that overlapping topics are not necessarily redundant, one of the three suggestions on the explanation page (as translated above) is to discuss why the topics (even though they overlap thematically) might be sufficiently distinguished to not require further work. Another name for the template could be {Overlap} or a similar synonym, the German word used is Redundanz.Thalassicus01 22:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Have a look at {{merge-multiple}}. Mike Dillon 22:58, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HTML Timeline Requested

Can Wikipedia create a template which automates making (and rearranging/organizing) HTML files into a historic time line which can be used by anyone for any time line in any historic period (from Ancient History to Modern).

These types of templates exist in cyberland for Word Documents and Excell files but not for HTML. What would be perfect would be a style sheet developed or other type of template into which a student of history could enter an event or person with the event or person's time span, source of information, photo(s), and write up (1 or more paragraphs)...with a seperate "click out" page for more "in depth" look at the event or person's life yet with one overall "page" that shows how things relate to one another. Vertical or horizontal doesn't matter (maybe both?) for the time line, just so that the summary on the time line is clickable to another web page that can give details.

Thanks :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.198.62.17 (talk • contribs).

Can you provide an example of a site that has what you're looking for? --Dgies 22:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Could you use <timeline>, as is shown in Welsh language? --Dgies 06:38, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
