King-Size Homer

"King-Size Homer" is the seventh episode of The Simpsons' seventh season. The episode aired on November 5, 1995.

[edit] Synopsis
Mr. Burns organizes an exercise program at the power plant, and while this program finds some support among the workers, Homer is too lazy. Homer also finds work in general unsatisfactory, and eventually decides to put on weight until he is 300 pounds, so he can be legally disabled and force Burns to let him telecommute. Despite Marge's protests that this could endanger his health and jeopardize her attraction to him, Homer engages in nearly unprecedented gluttony. Finally, when Bart tells Homer they're out of food, Maggie makes Homer a Play-Doh donut, and upon eating it he reaches 315 pounds. Homer enjoys working from home: all he has to do is hit "y" (for "yes") on the computer repeatedly. One day, Homer leaves a drinking bird hitting the "y" while he goes out to see a movie. Upon his return, he finds the bird broken and a meltdown at the power plant imminent. Homer rushes to the plant, bravely tries to take charge and he ultimately saves the day — his enormous gut gets stuck in the release tube and blocks the toxic gas from release. In a show of gratitude to Homer, Mr. Burns lets him back into the exercise program as his instructor, but he is still not very good at it. Thus, a frustrated Mr. Burns sponsors his liposuction.

- Homer's muumuu dress is one of his alternate uniforms in the video game, The Simpsons Hit & Run.
- Homer reads the computer readout in a rather flat monotone, similar to how a computer voice synthesizer would read it.
- Iroquois Twists, the politically incorrect exercises that Mr. Burns leads in the final sequence, are fictitious. They were made up by the writers to sound old-timey.
- This is one of the only episodes in which Mr. Burns is portrayed as vigorous and athletic (at least for a man his age), rather than his more usual frail self.

- When Homer leaves "work" to see a movie, he meets Bart & Lisa at the door, presumably coming from school. After Homer comes home from the theater, he calls for Bart & Lisa, but gets no answer, implying he is alone in the house. Later, as he is driving an ice cream truck to the plant, he passes Lisa in the school bus, again presumably coming home from school.

There doesn't seem to be any 'any key'! Phew! Boy, all this computer hacking is making me thirsty. I think I'll order a "Tab" (believeing that the Tab key will bring him the beverage, places a cup near the floppy disk drive) Oh, no time for that now, the computers starting!(reading from computer)'Check core temperature' Y-E-S. 'Core Temperature normal' Hmm. Not too shabby. 'Vent Radioactive gas' N-O. 'Venting prevents explosion' Venting prevents ex-plosh-ee-on. Fine. Vent the stupid gas.(You see the gas tank, then follow it along a pipe. It comes out in a field, where gas comes out of a scarecrows hat and destroys most of the field)
Farmer: Oh no! The corn! Paul Newman's gonna have ma' legs broke. - Homer: (Driving into the Nuclear Power Plant. When workers see him, they jump on the truck and cling to the sides) (angrily) Get away, damn it! Run for your lives!
Worker #1: I'll take a Rocket Pop!
Worker #2: What can I get for thirty cents?
Homer: (angrily) Let go, I've got to get to the tank!(He swerves onto the cooling tower, and the van falls off and lands on its side)
Worker #3: Heck, I can't decide without the pictures. (Homer drives off straight to get the tank) - Man: Hey, fatty. I got a movie for ya: "A Fridge Too Far"!
- Lisa: Mom, aren't you going to step in and stop this?
Marge: Usually, your father's crackpot schemes fail once he sees something good on TV. (worried) But this season... - Telephone Operator: "The fingers you have used to dial, are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now."
- Jimbo: I heard that guy's ass has its own Congressman!
- Dr. Nick Riviera: "And remember, if you're not sure about something, just rub it against a piece of paper. (Rubs a drumstick on a sheet of paper, which subsequently turns clear in the center) If the paper turns clear, it's your window to weight gain! (Looks through paper and waves) Bye bye, everybody!"
- Homer: (uncertain if a fish sandwich is unhealthy) "I don't know. Fish sandwich...are you sure?"
(Bart rubs the sandwich on the wall until the wall turns clear. A bird flies into the newly transparent wall.) - Homer: Bart and Lisa have to go to school while I get to stay home, na na na na na!
Lisa: I like school!
Homer: Well, why don't you live in it then?
Lisa: I would if I could!
Bart: Not me sister, when I grow up I'm gonna be a lardo on workman's comp just like Dad.
(in his fantasy, talking to reporters crowding around his bed) I wash myself with a rag on a stick. - Lisa: I think it's ironic that dad saved the day while a slimmer man would have fallen to his doom.
Bart: And I think it's ironic that for once dad's butt prevented the release of toxic gas-
Marge: Bart! - Dr. Nick Riviera: Be creative. Instead of eating sandwiches with bread, use Pop-Tarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon.
Bart: You could brush your teeth with milkshakes!
Dr. Nick Riviera: (pats Bart on the head) Heh, did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College, too? - Cinema Owner: Sir, if you could just leave now, I'd be happy to treat you to a garbage bag full of popcorn.
