"Frankenstein" is a rock and roll instrumental by The Edgar Winter Group. The 1972 song featured an early popularization of the synthesizer, on the group's album They Only Come out at Night. The song topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for a week starting in May of 1973, and sold a million copies. It reached #18 in the UK the following month.[1]

Its name is derived from the fact that the final version of the song was pieced together from many different takes. (The rift was first used by Winter on the jazz oriented album Entrance in the song Hung Up. He later tried a variation on it Martians from the Standing on Rock album.)This is the result of Edgar Winter's playing many of the instruments on the track. It was originally supposed to be the B-side to another song, but the two were soon reversed by the label. This song is rumored to be the first ever song to have a double drum solo.
