[edit] History
Signing on July 22, 1954, the station served as the market's only TV station until 1965, when WTWO signed on. The station has always been a CBS affiliate. However, on various occasions, it has also carried selected programs from ABC, NBC and until its demise, DuMont.
The Hulman family & The Wabash Valley Broadcast Group owned the station until the mid '90s, when it was sold to Emmis Communications.
Emmis sold the station to LIN TV in August of 2005. LIN also owns 3 other CBS affiliates in Indiana (including WISH-TV in Indianapolis).
Local news had been in existence since sign-on. The newscast was known since the mid '70s as "NewsCenter 10". The title changed to "Action 10 News" in 1985, and modified to "Action 10 News-WTHI" in 2001. On September 18th, 2006, the branding changed to "News 10". A new logo and graphics package also premiered.
Local programs of the past featured Jerry Van Dyke of Coach and My Mother the Car fame, and "Captain Jack", whose most famous guest was an Indiana State University student named Larry Bird.
Cheryl Lemke, now an on-air personality at The Weather Channel, served as the station's chief meteorologist in the 1980s. Before his days on CNN Headline News, David Goodnow was also an anchor for WTHI.
