[edit] Account erasing
Is there some way to erase an account? I don't mean block it, but remove its existance? Thanks in advance. Atestuser 16:41, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Deleting accounts is really never done, since there's no way to reassign the edits. This is against the GFDL. Messedrocker 02:19, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Tell that to oversight. 24.91.16.229 03:16, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Deleting accounts is possible theoretically, but in practise, it's not done. Reassigning of edits is very possible in MediaWiki. How do you think other wikis cope, and how do you think the user renaming extension works? Rob Church 15:20, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Absolutely useless
Quote from Main Page: "Changes to the code will generally appear here a few minutes before they appear on the rest of the Wikimedia wikis." So what? Users shall know when there is a change in the code, then have a few minutes time to test it here, then have to hurry to report a bug (perhaps with only a few seconds left) to avoid having a buggy version at Wikipedia? Changes should be at least tested some days, not only a few minutes. --84.60.253.157 16:47, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Users don't test changes here, developers do. The Wikimedia setup is different to any development system we have, and some differences are subtle and hard to reproduce. Developers should test changes here before they sync the files and affect the rest of the wikis. -- Tim Starling 12:19, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Link Here
Is there any way to link to here from another wiki? For example, if I want to link to the latin wikibooks I can type b:la: (which produces b:la:). However, typing w:test doesn't seem to work (w:test:). -Daniel (m:User:Dbmag9)
- Looks like 'Test' should work. See this page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_map - m:User:Harry Wood 23:11, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

- It still doesn't, I'm afraid. —Nightstallion (?) 19:45, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

- Yes it doesn't work. Matthew hk 06:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

You're not supposed to link here. It's not a production site, it's not a site which the public need to know about in general. If, for some ridiculous reason, you have to, use a normal URL. Rob Church 15:18, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
You can interwiki test now Use "testwiki:" and you're good to go. Koavf 04:22, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Community Portal
Is there going to be some kind of community portal thing going on here? I know there isn't really a community, but there should be somewhere other than here where people can put forward questions, and get an explanation of this site. Dbmag9 16:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- I concur. —Nightstallion (?) 19:45, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Now open, the Community Portal! Timrem (talk • contribs) 18:18, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Can a link to the new communty portal be put on the left side navigation, where people can easily find it, like it is on the other wikis?--67.169.212.172 04:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Who deleted it? Why? Where are we to find the voting results now? 141.153.155.88 17:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- It seems that Rob Church deleted it. I would ask him to restore it, BUT he's really really pissed at Wikimedia right now. So can any admins please restore it? --LBMixPro <Speak|On|It> 03:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Error?
Sorry if someone answered me, but Wikipedia:Community Portal was erased and my question with its possible answer is lost. However...
I do not know if it's an error or not, but in the Test Wikipedia I could check comments in subpages talks are not noticed like in user pages:
Something similar. When adding a comment in a subpage like "User Talk:Foo/Test", Foo has not any message when logging in.
I also want to say I created a guest account, to let unregistered users experiment editing, moving, button bar... with same purposals that es:Usuario:Invitado (pybalo) (which is not mine, is from Pybalo) and maybe some more, like talk editings (I needed two accounts to do that test). If it causes any annoyance, you can block it and refer to me. Thank you.--Nethac DIU 21:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Administration
How do you become an admin on this Wikipedia? --Gray Porpoise 13:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- You list your name at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions, that's how. --Gray Porpoise 17:43, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Favicon.ico change?
Kudos on the logo, very recognizable, both for what it is and what it is not. Could the w:favicon also be changed to a negative image? Almost did a Bad Thing(tm) and edited on the wrong site. Sure, I could have looked at the gigantic 155x135 logo, but no, I was fixed on the 16x16 one as I flipped thru my Firefox tabs. :) A sample is , but it wouldn't let me upload an .ico file. — MrDolomite | Talk 04:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- We already use that favicon for the secure server. I don't really think a favicon change is worth the effort (a server admin needs to do it, I think). --james(talk) 12:00, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I had no idea there was a secure server for wikipedia, let alone that it used that icon. :) With that being the case, I was going to use secure server for test to help me self-disambiguate, but it turns out there isn't one for test. :( — MrDolomite | Talk 16:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Test pages
there are countless test pages out there (created by bots and etc), should they be deleted? --Cat out@ 00:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Strange code
Why nowiki tags generate a code like UNIQ3122384d20612827-nowiki-00000001-QINU?--Nethac DIU 11:01, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- This will occur on any page using {{DISPLAYTITLE:Some title}}. I think it's a bug in a possible future update which allows a page to be found at one location but be titled something else. Timrem (talk • contribs) 18:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh. Thank you.
-
- And yes, DISPLAYTITLE changes the visible title with no changing the URL direction. I saw it before - I don't know why it fails now. The header of this page, with DISPLAYTITLE would be:
[edit] Some title
Link to this page as [[Talk:Main Page]]
With the grey warning just under the title, I don't know how did that space appear.--Nethac DIU 16:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
