Trout worms

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trout worms are plastic fishing baits, made with many colors such as orange, red, chartreuse and many others.

Trout worms can be setup many ways for effectiveness, normally used with a small fishing hook with a split shot weight to keep the trout worm deeper in the water. The fishing equipment recommended is a 7 foot fishing rod with 2 to 4lb fishing line. There are many versions of trout worms like Berkley Power Worms or Lip RipperZ Trout Worms, etc.

Trout Fishing With Worms and Grubs When trout fishing there are many schools of thought or trout fishing techniques, especially in saltwater. There is trolling which anglers do not use plastic worms for. Then there is the more popular jigging and casting which is when an angler will use trout worms. Bottom fishing or more commonly called jigging for trout is a tecnique used when the trout are near the bottom of the water column, usually feeding down deep. Jigging is done by placing your grub or plastic worm on your lead head (hook weighted by lead) and drop it straight down until the lure hits bottom. Once on bottom the angler jigs the line up and then lets it down, jigs it up and then back down. All of this up and down motion only moves the lure about 5 feet off the bottom and then back down to the bottom. Usually on the way down a trout will take the grub and lead head. that's when the angler sets the hook and is off to the races.

For bait casting for trout most anglers will use a bucktail or worm on a lead head. The angler will back away from the bank or rocks and cast his lure towards them. Once the lure hits water the angler will pull slightly and wind, pull slightly and wind over and over until the lure is retrieved all the way in. Then the angler repeats the process again and again until the time a big trout hits the rig or trout worm.

[edit] Fishing Tackle

  • Rod: Lite or Ultra Lite action fishing rods. Top three rods for fishing trout worms are Phenix, Kencor, and G Loomis.
  • Rod Length: Rods in excess of 6 foot are highly recommended in order to "feel" the worm and detect bites at all time.
  • Line: 2-4 lb line. Nothing more.
