Trinity Area School District

Trinty Area School District is located in Washington, Pennsylvania. The history of the school district dates back to the 1850s when Joseph McKnight built a home on top of a hill overlooking the city of Washington, Pennsylvania. This home came to be called Spring Hill and is now the old part of the district's high school. It later was established as an Episcopal military school for boys and was named Trinity Hall Military Academy. Trinity Hall Military Academy became one of the best equipped military schools for boys in the country. The Smith family owned the property after McKnight and welcomed President Ulysses S. Grant to stay there on sevrel occasions. It had to be expanded in 1881 due to the school's number of students had increased. After the death of William Smith in 1904, the school had to close due to lack of funding. It reopened in 1925 with a joint venture of Amwell, Canton, North Franklin, and South Strabane Townships to establish the building as a high school. This is when the school district was founded.

Trinity High School offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports. Football, baseball, soccer, cross-country, track, wrestling, volleyball, golf, rifle, lacrosse, ice hockey, swimming, tennis, and cheerleading are available at Trinity. They are in the WPIAL AAA and AAAA divisions for their sports.

The extracurricular activities are as follows:

• The Marching Band (won 6 consecutive PIMBA championships and are the current champions)
• The Forensics Team (member of the National Forensics League, one National Champion in Expository to its record, and has had numerous individuals qualify to the National Tournament and PHSSL State Tournament every year)
• The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Team (has several individuals go to the state tournament every year)
• The Odyssey of the Mind Team (has had one team go to the World Tournament and many teams got to the state championship)
• National History Day (competitors involved have gone to the state and national championships)
• Mayday used to be a Trinity Tradition since its founding, up until 1995, MayDay was celebrated in May with the crowning of a May Queen.
• Olympus, the yearbook staff, have created some of the best yearbooks in Trinity's History.

The Academic League, Spanish Club, French Club, German Club, French Honor Society, The Hiller Newspaper, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Student Council, SADD, Vocal Club, Future Teachers, Key Club, Music Appreciation, Friends Need Friends, Drawing Club, Artists' Club, Thespians, Math League, Safe/Envirothon, Literary Journal, Fellowship Club, The Young Democrats Club, and the Teen Age Republicans Club are additional groups that are sponsored by the high school.

Trinity High School offers 13 Advanced Placement classes and three languages. Spanish, French, and German are the three. These language courses include classes from level one to level five. They are taught by Madame Kibbel, Senora Sloane, Senora Podany, Frau Anys, and Herr McLaughlin.

The history subjects include, American, European, Government, Economics, Law, World, and Psychology.

The science subjects include, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Oceanography, Astrology, and Geography, and other conceptual subjects.

Mathmatics include, Algebra and Int. Geometry (4 levels), Calculus (AB, BC, AB-BC), Pre Calculus, and Statistics.

The English subjects include, Great Reads, Debate(1 & 2) Honors, Journalism, and Public Speaking.

There are also varrious elective subjects in the areas of Arts, Music, Business, Study Halls, Work Release, English, Science, History, Mathmatics, and other areas.
