The Durham Revue

The Durham Revue is an amateur theatrical club in Durham, England, run by the students of Durham University. Critically and commercially successful, the group writes and performs new fast-paced sketch comedy in Durham, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and performs in the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Revue produces one all-new Durham show in each of the three terms. They include the now institutional ‘Comedy Fest’, a large charity event presenting the best of UK student comedy, with the Durham Revue performing alongside groups such as the Cambridge Footlights, The Oxford Revue, H-BAM and Leeds Revue. The group also performs at College balls and festivals, as well as at other universities around the UK and Ireland. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival show presents the cream of the year's material and for the past few years has run throughout August at the Smirnoff Underbelly.

Some form of revue theatre has existed at Durham in various guises for many years: Durham students have taken shows to Edinburgh since the early 1950s, and alongside Oxford, Birmingham and Edinburgh were responsible for developing the strong student aspect to a sideline festival which became known as the 'Fringe'.
Alumini have gone on to pursue successful television careers, with recent Revue graduates winning Fringe First awards and the Sunday Times Playwright of the Year Award.
