Stephen Elliott (actor)

Stephen Elliott (born November 27, 1918 in New York City; died May 21, 2005 in Woodland Hills, California) was an American actor from New York City.

Born Elliott Pershing Stitzel he got his first engagement at the New York Neighborhood Playhouse in 1940. After serving his country in World War II Stephen Elliott started a successful career on Broadway debutating in Shakespeare's The Tempest. During his stage career Mr. Elliott was nominated for the Tony Award (1967) as Best Supporting or Feature Actor (Dramatic) for a production of Marat/Sade. Two years later he achieved the Drama Desk Award.

Despite taking parts in motion pictures since the early Fifties (he played Dr. Pauli in the early Captain Video series) it took a longe time for acting success in films. In 1981, at the of 63, Mr. Elliott played the cruel villain J.J. Cord opposite Jeff Bridges in Cutter's Way. In the following years Mr. Elliott played a lot of amoral, arrogant and villainous characters like the snobbish millionaire Burt Johnson opposite Dudley Moore's award-winning Arthur. He further made a lot of guest appearances in TV series, so as Douglas Channing, Jane Wyman's first husband in Falcon Crest, as Texan millionaire Scotty Demarest in Dallas (1980, 1984-85 and again 1987) and between 1994 and 1999 Judge Harold Aldrich in Chicago Hope. Among his many credits are Beverly Hills Cop, The Hospital, St. Elsewhere and Charles Bronson's Death Wish.
