A specialist is a person who is able to solve some predefined class of problems or to execute well some class of tasks, therefore specialists exist in every domain of human activity. Every science, engineering and other domain of social, administrative and, in general, structured activity, has own specialists. Usually, they are officially recognized by proper authorities composed of recognized experts.
For example:
- In medicine, a specialist is a physician with the formally recognized knowledge and the capacity of they application in a specific medical branch (e.g. a neurologist or endocrinologist). A physician who is General practitioner (GP), sometimes known as a family practitioner is not considered a specialist in any particular field of medicine.
- At the New York Stock Exchange a specialist is a trader who makes a market in one or several stocks and holds the limit order book for those stocks.
- In internet marketing a specialist refers to someone who deals with a certain area of the website, or with a particular practice. Such a person might be a Search Engine Optimization specialist, who focuses on increasing rankings in organic search, or even a sub-specialist who focuses on a particular niche.
