[edit] Storyline

Lot (Granger) takes his family and an entire tribe of Hebrew people to the City of Sodom where he meets the "Sodomites" (citizens of Sodom) authoritarian royal family watch and hopes that the Sodomites will allow the Hebrew people to live in peace. However, Lot is horrified to see the elites living in luxury, and using human slaves as servants, and for violent games of entertainment. Lot also becomes involved with one of the Queen Anouk Aimee's slave girl, and eventually the Hebrews and the Sodomites declare war on each other, while God destroys the city for its immorality. The central sins of Sodom appear to be slavery and brutality, with homosexuality only being alluded to.

The film is notable for featuring the last of Miklos Rozsa's epic film scores. Rozsa, who replaced Dimitri Tiomkin, thought the $7 million film was tacky and inferior. Although a complete version of the score has never been released on CD, selections from the score are available on two CDs: one from Cambria Records and Publishing, which is taken from the composer's mono recordings, and one from BMG, which is taken from the original LP.

Maurice Binder, who designed the credits for the James Bond films, directed the film's prologue. Another "Bond" film collaborator, Ken Adam, was the film's production designer.

[edit] Reviews

Time Out London review stated that the film was a "low point" in the director's career that the film represented a 1960s tackyness that is thankfully not seen anymore [1].
