Royal Rumble 1989 was the second annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view event from the World Wrestling Federation. It took place on January 15, 1989 in the The Summit located in Houston, Texas.

- Two out of three falls match: Jim Duggan and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) def. Dino Bravo (w/Frenchy Martin) and The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques Rougeau & Raymond Rougeau w/Jimmy Hart)
- Jacques pinned Bret. (4:30)

- Big John Studd won the 1989 Royal Rumble
- The final two were Big John Studd and Ted DiBiase. Studd eliminated DiBiase to win the Royal Rumble. (1:03:09)
- After being eliminated by André the Giant, Jake "The Snake" Roberts decided to bring out his snake Damien. When Roberts threw Damien into the ring, André ran out of the ring and eliminated himself.
- Hulk Hogan accidentally eliminated "Macho Man" Randy Savage. The two had a confrontation that led to Miss Elizabeth trying to break them up. The Twin Towers, Akeem and Big Boss Man, took advantage of this and eliminated Hogan together. Hogan got his revenge and eliminated Big Boss Man.
- The final two were Big John Studd and Ted DiBiase. Studd eliminated DiBiase to win the Royal Rumble. (1:03:09)

- The Warlord set a record by being in the ring for only 1.8 seconds before being eliminated by Hulk Hogan. This dubious record for shortest participation in any single Royal Rumble match still stands to this day.
- The 1989 Royal Rumble was the first Royal Rumble event to have a WWF Women's Championship match on the card.
- Shawn Michaels is currently the only superstar on the WWE roster who competed in the first 30-man Royal Rumble in 1989, and the most recent in 2006.
- In kayfabe "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase did not like the number that he drew and therefore consulted with Slick (who managed the Big Boss Man and Akeem) to arrange for the purchase of #30.
- Four wrestlers had previously participated in the original 1988 Royal Rumble, they are: Jake Roberts, Ron Bass, Tito Santana and Akeem/One Man Gang.
- The match between King Haku and Harley Race is edited out and never mentioned on the video.
- Curt Hennig broke the longevity record, lasting 28 minutes.
