Penarth railway station is the railway station serving the town of Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. It is the terminus of the Penarth branch of the Vale of Glamorgan Line from Cardiff. Originally when the line was created in 1865 for the new created docks in Penarth to counter the now famous Cardiff Bute Docks. Where the line now finishes, in the past it carried on thought the village of Sully and connect to then Barry Railway, at Cadoxton. However with most branch lines and Beeching Axe, the line past the cenment works to Cadoxton was removed in 1960's and when the cenment works closed the line from Penarth Station to the works was removed. When built the railway had two or in sections three lines but the line now only has one line.
The station has a small car park, but more commonly used by the local stops than for the station. The ticket office is open early morning to mid afternoon each day execpt sunday. The building on the left holds offices for local companies and a job centre plus.
All services on this line are operated by Arriva Trains Wales as part of the Valley Lines & National Rail network.
