NME Awards

The NME Awards are an annual music awards show, founded by the music magazine NME.
The first awards show was held in 1953, shortly after the founding of the magazine. The awards reflect the magazine's indie ethos, in contrast to the Brit Awards' more commercial nature.

At the 2006 show the Arctic Monkeys made history by becoming the first act to win Best New Band and Best British Band in the same year. The show featured performances by Babyshambles, Razorlight, Plan B, Ian Brown and Sugababes, who performed a cover version of the Arctic Monkey's song "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor". Other highlights of the evening included host Russell Brand's verbal altercation with Bob Geldof and Ryan Jarman of The Cribs throwing himself across a table while accepting the Best Live Band award on behalf of Franz Ferdinand. Jarman was taken to hospital [1] after the incident where he met Duncan Lloyd of Maxïmo Park, who broke his arm at the after show party.

- Franz Ferdinand made history by winning more awards than any other band this millenium, a total of 4 awards.
2006
- Arctic Monkeys: First act to win both "Best New Band" and "Best British Band" in the same year. Became the third band in the modern era to win three awards (Best New Band, Best British Band, Best Track).
- Kaiser Chiefs: Nominated for a record-breaking six categories (Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Track, Best Video, Best Music DVD, and Best Album). Best Album was the only award won but lead singer Ricky Wilson won the "Best Dressed" award.
2004
- Oasis: First band to win the newly introduced award for "Best DVD".
2002
