[edit] Thoughts:
I believe that wikipedia is still at a stage where it should move forward by creating a better coverance of truly encyclopedic topics (e.g. countering the systemic bias) and that only once a fair coverance has been reached of topics of scientific and general value and importance should we start including topics of questionable notability. I do support deletion of non notable articles and bad cases of POV - I don't believe that it is the responsability of other editors to balance out the constant influx of POV articles, since that would completely halt the creation of acual encyclopedic content. Alternatively if unhindered it would simply create two parallel wikipedias: one that is reliable and full of notable content and another half where religious and political propaganda is rampant - such an encyclopedia would be useless.
Particularly my fear is that the inclusion of religiously and politically motivated POV content is much faster than the inclusion of encyclopedic but less controversial material and that due to the zeal of the POV "preachers" it takes too much effort from the editors who try to strive towards nonbiased and encyclopedic content to counter this bias - This will draw wikipedia into a stalemate where all work is being done on the premises of "preachers" with the expert editors arguing that the moon is not made of cheese in a futile attempt to counter the "preachers" POV additions with logic arguments, and balance out POV with basic scientific methods.
In short I feel that a significant change in politics towards nonnotable articles and particularly POV pushing is warranted, basically I think the burden of creating NPOV content should be shifted to the editors who push POVs so that POV-pushing in articles could be deleted or reverted like vandalism and only included when the editor demonstrates and ability to present it in a nonbiased way. I would also like to see a set of guidelines and/or policies that allow the identification of religiously and politically biased content and allows for a process of removal.
