Katpadi , also spelled Kattupadi, is a panchayat town in Vellore District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Katpadi is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 224 metres (734 feet).
It is located on the Chennai (previously Madras) to Bangalore railway line, approximately 5 km from Vellore itself, and is the nearest broad-gauge railway station to Vellore.
Katpadi, also spelled as Kattupadi is a suburb of Vellore. Vellore is the district headquarters of Vellore district. Many years ago Katpadi was thought of as a separate village. But, in the past 20 years Vellore has seen drastic improvement which has virtually made Katpadi a suburb of Vellore.
Katpadi also enjoys all facilities of Vellore. The pincode is 632007 inline with the main stream pincode of the City. It also enjoys the same telephone STD code of 0416 and the vehicle registration series of TN-23-XX-XXXX
Katpadi is the northern suburb of Vellore, and is the northern most point of the City. Andhra Pradesh border is just 5min drive from Katpadi, Vellore.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Katpadi had a population of 15,925. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Katpadi has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 65%. In Katpadi, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Katpadi Railway Junction is one of the famous junction in Southern Railway. The number of commuters have increased tremendously mainly due to Christian Medical College & Hospital and Vellore Institute of Technology. There is an old story which says that though there was a station katpadi, no major trains stopped here. Daughter of a minister wanted a stop as she commuted daily from Chennai. And from then all major trains stops here.
