[edit] iu.wikipedia

Hi Eequor,

Doing cleanup activities on the Inuktitut Wikipedia is ultimately a good thing, but I don't think it's constructive to post large hunks of text in English as new articles - new articles should be reserved for fluent speakers, or at least should be attempts at good Inuktitut with no English.

--Node 04:31, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I know. It's at least some sort of starting point. My feeling is that English should be okay for essential articles, if nothing else is available. It's common among the Inuit, and unfortunately it's becoming more common. So at least there's familiarity.
On the other hand, certainly no article titles should be in English, and probably should be in ᑎᑎᕋᐅᓯᖅ ᓄᑖᖅ, with inuujingajut only for redirects. Snail and Postal will both have to go.
I'm hoping the two Canadians who have visited might be more than occasional visitors. Somebody is more familiar with Inuktitut than I am; the main page had a few words already. History and music, if I recall correctly.
In any event, somebody ought to appreciate the irony in the decay from "default" English to Inuktitut. ^_^ --ᐃᖁᐆᕐ 05:10, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Stub pages

Since the odds are good that we've got at least some Inuktitut vocabulary wrong, I'm putting up stubs with approximate English so that if we ever get actual Inuktitut speakers here, they'll at least be able to see what we were trying to do.

Also, there is now a text that appears when you add {{stub}} to a page. My first attempt at Inuktitut composition. What the hell.

Also, I propose as standard practice to put ICI/Nunavut Roman spellings at the top of each page with a name in syllabics. ᑏᑎᕉ 09:23, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] High Speed Internet comes to Nunavut

We may have company soon. Nunanet is planning on offering high-speed access in Iqaluit before X-mas [1] and in 25 other Nunavut communities by March. [2] And the Kativik Regional Government is supposed to have high-speed up and running in Nunavik as of last month. [3] Both are at C$60 per month, which means that all schools will have it and wealthier Inuit will be able to afford it.

Good. This will make it a lot easier to bring Inuktitut speakers here. ᑏᑎᕉ 11:18, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Nunavut qaliujaaq

Eequor, can you remove Template:Nunavut qaliujaaq? It was an experiment that didn't work.

I've started soliciting entries from people who have posted informational materials on the web. So far, no answers. In the mean time, look at the infobox at ᑎᑎᕋᐅᔭᖅ. I think this might be a good idea for an Inuktitut Wikipedia because of the multiplicity of standard spellings and the nature of Inuktitut lexicology. A lot of Inuit will know the English work but have never heard an Inuktitut word for some of these things.
