Shouldn't there be a consensus on whether to use Arabic or Latin? Anon 01:28, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Sure - but to have a consensus you first have to have some editors who speak Hausa... My bet is Latin, though; as far as I know, there are no Arabc-script Hausa websites. - 64.81.54.23 18:07, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I think it should be written with Arabic Alphabet.
[edit] Boko & Ajami
The Latin-based transcription, known in Hausa as Boko, is the currently dominant standard in print, instruction, and the internet, in Nigeria and Niger, so that should be the choice here. That said, there are many people who know or use the historically older Arabic-based Ajami transcription to one degree or another, and there are efforts to accommodate this in ICT (one aspect is meeting character needs in Unicode, which I understand to be complicated a bit by the fact that Ajami usage is not standardized in the same way Boko is). In the ideal world there should be both - maybe eventually with the elegant technofix of a transliteration feature between the two - but go with the Boko now and provide alternative space for Ajami if/when/as the interest is manifested.
