Hale Koa Hotel

The Hale Koa Hotel, which means House of the Warrior in Hawaiian, is a hotel located on Waikiki Beach and owned by the United States Department of Defense. It sits on the southeast corner of Fort DeRussy in the middle of downtown Honolulu. The hotel has more than one million guests every year, all of whom are required to be active or retired military, DOD employees, or their family members.

The hotel is very extravagant. In the guest rooms there is a lanai deck, along with wonderful bathrooms, armoire, television, and guest beds made to your liking. Because it is military-only, guests are sequestered from the hustle of Honolulu tourism. Breakfast in its Koko Café is always a great start because it has an open porch with a net to keep the birds out. The pool has two bridges, and a maximum five foot depth. The beach is only steps away, where guests are sure to get sandy. The major event is the luau. The crown jewel of the hotel is the banyan tree room, which houses a huge, majestic banyan tree. With a lobby for royalty and a parking garage just across the street, the Hale Koa Hotel is very nice.

The hotel opened on October 25th, 1975, with a traditional Hawaiian ceremony. A major expansion came in 1991. The hotel added a new pool, a beverage bar, and a luau garden. Later, the Maile tower was built across the lobby from the Ilima tower, bringing the total number of rooms to 817. Also constructed was an adults-only pool, a fitness center, a parking garage and Bibas, a new café located on a porch underneath the Maile tower.
