The constituency is based around the town of Gillingham in Kent.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Kent, the Boundary Commission for England has created an extended constituency of Gillingham and Rainham.
This seat should not be confused with the new constituency of Dagenham and Rainham, which is in London
