Father Judge High School is an all-boys Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1954 by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and is run by the Oblates of St. Francis De Sales.

The mission of Father Judge High School is to provide a quality Catholic education to the young men of the Philadelphia area through the dissemination and infusion of spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and social values instilled with the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales. Each day and most classes begin with the reciting of Salesianum's version of the Catholic prayer, The Direction of Intention. Which reads "My God I Give You This Action Please Give Me The Grace To Conduct Myself During It In A Matter Most Pleasing To You."The prayer is followed by the statement "St. Francis de Sales, pray for us."

Father Judge was founded in 1954 to serve the needs of the Catholic people in the growing northeastern neighborhoods of Philadelphia. His Eminence John Cardinal O'Hara asked the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to staff the all-boys school. The Oblates had started Northeast Catholic High School in 1926 and continued their tradition of teaching in the spirit of their patron, St. Francis de Sales, at Fr. Judge. The new school on Solly Avenue was named after Fr. Thomas Judge, a priest who, like Francis de Sales, encouraged people to find God in the ordinary events of everyday life. Thomas Judge had founded the congregation of sisters whose "motherhouse" is located on the other end of Solly Avenue. The Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity generously donated the property which became Fr. Judge High School and continue to be a presence in the community which is Fr. Judge.

The school seal, which is essentially Salesian, was selected in October of l954. The letters "VJ" which mean "Live Jesus" form a motto that appears often in the writings of St. Francis de Sales. The school colors of blue and red were chosen through an essay contest held among the first students in 1954. Blue was symbolic of the Marian Year, 1954, in which the school was founded. Fr. Thomas O'Connell, OSFS, the first principal, recalled that the students selected the red as a symbol of our brotherhood with North Catholic since we had sprung from it. He combined the colors himself, making them the unique and respected symbol of Father Judge High School. The school motto, non excidet, is taken from the episcopal coat of arms of St. Francis de Sales. The translation reads "he will not fall away."

Today the Oblates continue to staff Father Judge. The dozen Oblates who work at Judge, along with dozens of dedicated lay faculty and staff, continue the mission of bringing the Salesian spirit of gentleness and strength to the hundreds of young men who have come to Solly Avenue for over 50 years!

  • SCHOOL MOTTO: NON EXCIDET (HE WILL NOT FAIL)
  • SCHOOL PATRON: SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES
  • SCHOOL MASCOT: CRUSADER
  • SCHOOL COLORS: SHERIDAN RED & COLUMBIA BLUE
