The Carl D. Perkins Bridge linking South Portsmouth, KY with Portsmouth, OH was completed in 1988. It is a steel cantilever bridge. Currently, the Perkins Bridge is the only bridge crossing the Ohio River at Portsmouth. The U.S. Grant Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge located one mile upstream from the Perkins Bridge, will reopen in 2005 after the original Grant Bridge was demolished in 2001. The Scioto River enters from the right just above the Perkins bridge. The photo is taken from the point between the rivers, looking downstream.
