Robert Michael Nesmith (* 30. Dezember 1942 in Houston/Texas) ist ein US-amerikanischer Produzent, Autor, Sänger und Schauspieler.

Nesmith wurde 1966 bekannt als Mitglied der Popgruppe The Monkees, zu der auch David Thomas (Davy) Jones, George Michael (Micky) Dolenz Jr., und Peter Halsten (Peter Tork) Thorkelson gehörten.

Seine Karriere begann er allerdings unter dem Namen Michael Blessing. Unter diesem Namen veröffentlichte er einige nicht so erfolgreiche Platten, schrieb aber darüber hinaus Lieder für andere Interpreten. Different Drum der Stone Poneys (feat. Linda Ronstadt) dürfte dabei das bekannteste Werk sein.

Bemerkenswerte Randnotiz: Singen brauchte er eigentlich nicht mehr. Seine Mutter Bette Nesmith Graham ist die Erfinderin von Tipp-Ex und hatte deshalb mehr Geld als genug.

Nesmith entwickelte ein Video-Sendeformat, genannt „Pop Clips“, für den Kabelsender Nickelodeon, der es weiterverkaufte an Time Warner/Amex, was schlussendlich zur Gründung des Musiksenders MTV führte.

1997 drehte Nesmith einen Revival-TV-Film unter dem Titel „Hey, Hey, It's the Monkees“, der die originalen Bandmitglieder in ihren Fernsehrollen nach dreißig Jahren immer noch auf der Suche nach Erfolg zeigt. 1998 veröffentlichte Nesmith seinen ersten Roman mit dem Titel The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora.

Die Monkees bekamen bei der Adresse 6679 Hollywood Blvd. einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame.
