[edit] Medals

[edit] Gold

  • Men's volleyball

Eight years after the silver medal in Los Angeles, Brazil won the gold medal in the Olympic tournament without losing a single game. Only one player from 1984 remained, Amaury. In 2004, the Brazilians won again, with two players from 1992, Giovane and Maurício.

  • Rogério Sampaio — judo, men's lightweight

Sampaio injured himself before the 1996 selectives, and never was able to return. His brother, Ricardo, fought in the 1988 Olympics.

[edit] Silver

Borges even overcame his idol Matt Biondi to win the silver medal. His lane's chronometer wasn't working, and they had to see the TV recordings to guarantee his medal. Borges won three more medals in 1996 and 2000.
