Asif Iqbal (cricketer)

Asif Iqbal Razvi (Urdu: آصف اقبال رضوی) (born 6 June 1943) is an Pakistani cricketer who captained Kent CCC and Pakistan. He is now an ICC Match Referee.

Asif Iqbal was born in Hyderabad, Anhra Pradesh, India. He inspired many admirers when he was a dashing, handsome right-handed batsman and an effective right-arm medium bowler for Pakistan, Hyderabad, Karachi, Kent, National Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan International Airlines. After learning his cricket in Hyderabad, India, he emigrated to Pakistan in 1961, where he opened the bowling with outswing before concentrating on batting that was full of light footwork and cavalier cover-driving.

He has received some considerable criticism, following allegations of match-fixing. The first allegations of match-fixing concerned Pakistan's 1979-80 tour of India when Asif was captain, and many subsequent ones centred on Sharjah, where Asif presided from the outset as director of cricket.
