Alien vs Predator is a 1993 Super NES game developed by IGS and released by Activision worldwide. It is part of the Alien vs. Predator franchise. Despite the similar game play, it is not related in any way to the arcade game of the same name, which was released by Capcom.
The player controls a Predator, who receives a distress call and flies to earth, only to find that he has to fight off the Alien species. The game is a typical beat 'em up game, in which the Predator must kill all Aliens before advancing through the levels. Some of the Predator's abilities include the possibility to become invisible and charge lasers to destroy all enemies in a screen (at cost of some energy).
There are some inconsistencies between the game and the fictional universes. The Predator is able to become invisible, but since the Aliens don't have eyes, they have a advanced smell sense, which render the invisibility useless. Also, when some Aliens are killed, a bone-colored skull will appear. This is a clear reference to Predator 2 and causes some debates as to whether the Alien species have an exoskeleton as well as an endoskeleton.
The Japanese version features a orange-colored Predator who moves slowly, but is able to run by tapping left/right twice, whereas in the western releases, where the character is light brown and moves relatively fast, though he is not able to run. The laser bar required to fully charge in order to shoot lasers is also longer than the western version.
