Alec Gehard Olson, (born September 11, 1930) a former member of the US House of Representatives from Minnesota. He was born in Mamre Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.
Olson attended the public schools and graduated from Willmar High School in 1948. He engaged in farming between 1948–1955 and was employed as an insurance representative, 1955–1962. He was active in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, 1952–1962, and served as district chairman for four years. Olson was a delegate to 1960 Democratic National Convention, 1964 Democratic National Convention, and 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Olson served in the U.S. House of Representatives between (January 3, 1963–January 3, 1967). He lost his bid for re election in 1966. He served in the Minnesota Senate from 1969 to 1976. He was elected President of the state senate in 1973. When Wendell Anderson resigned the governorship to become U.S. Senator in 1976, Olson, as the President of the State Senate, became the lieutenant governor. He was Lieutenant Governor from December 29, 1976, to January 3, 1979. He was Rudy Perpich's running mate in the 1978 Minnesota's governor race.
